A never-ending heat wave, huge fires, torrential rain. This summer, our country has experienced a season from hell. With global warming, natural disasters are multiplying, especially droughts that attack and crack houses. In France, 10 million homes could be affected. Journalist Mathieu Robert investigated this invisible scourge and discovered that the French are increasingly badly compensated. Insurance companies very often refuse to reimburse the damage. In 2019, the French gave five billion euros to charities. And companies have understood the importance of this for their image. Their donations to NGOs are constantly increasing: 3.5 billion euros this year. But this generosity of large groups may have a hidden side. In 2021, according to figures from the French National Health Insurance, 72% of the amount of fraud detected will be committed by health professionals. Elise Lucet and her team investigated dental centres. Some of these groups seem to have become cash machines billing for useless or fictitious procedures. Repentant dentists testify. Former patients tell of being mutilated. Liberal nurses seem to be the health professionals who commit the most fraud. Some of them artificially inflate the bills of insured persons, especially the oldest and most vulnerable patients. Does the social security system manage to recover the money from fraud?
