He hears insults and humiliation from his sister-in-law as well as his brother. Ali experiences flashbacks of the moment he and his father entered the legendary cave that held Iblis' jewelry.

The dream that made Ali think of the terrible day when his father tried to capture Iblis but died in the attempt shakes him. He remembers how his father was chased by the forty thieves headed by Iblis, whom he misunderstood as Simsim. Ali's father had turned them into stone statues till the end of time and had sent Iblis to hell.
