Cheb Azzedine (Arabic: الشاب عز الدين), whose real name was Abed Benaouda (Arabic: بن عودة عابد), was born on July 17, 1975, in Chlef, Algeria, and died on February 6, 2019, in the same city. He was an Algerian Raï singer. Cheb Azzedine was born in Chlef into a modest family and grew up in working-class neighborhoods of the city, notably El Firma and Chegga. This working-class environment, marked by economic and social hardship, fostered his early sensitivity to injustice and inequality, which he would later express in his songs.
