Biography

Monica Zamora was born in Guipuzcoa, Spain and began her training at the age of ten with Ion Beita in Bilbao. At the age of fifteen, she won the “First Scholarship” at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, and in 1989, entered the Royal Ballet School in London. In 1991, she was offered a contract by Sir Peter Wright to dance with the Birmingham Royal Ballet (formerly Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet). In her first season with the company, she was chosen by Sir Kenneth Macmillan to dance Juliet in his restaging of Romeo and Juliet and was also cast in the principal role in his ballet Galanteries.
