Biography

Roberto Rodríguez Ruelas (January 7, 1909 – January 4, 1995) was a pioneering Mexican film director, producer, and sound engineer. Alongside his brother, Joselito Rodríguez, he was instrumental in introducing sound to Mexican cinema. In 1931, while working as sound engineers in Hollywood, the Rodríguez brothers were invited by President Pascual Ortiz Rubio to return to Mexico to produce sound films. This collaboration led to the creation of Santa (1932), recognized as the first Mexican film with synchronized sound.
